I think that the idea of “place” subconsciously and consciously defines parts of everybody. "Place" is such a funny word, there is something so homely about it but also so rigid. I would say that through displacing myself this past year and freeing myself of “places”, I have made space for greater things. It has been liberating and allowed me to redefine parts of myself and grow creatively and spiritually, especially through traveling more for my practice.
I have been lucky enough to travel to one of my homelands Barbados for the first time in the summer, which really felt like a homecoming after feeling it was calling me for some time. I cried before the plane touched down, as it was such a mixture of emotions. I am a fire sign, astrologically speaking, but I have never felt so connected to the ocean before, thinking about my ancestors that would have traveled over the same water many, many years before.
On spiritual protection
Community in whatever beautiful shape or form it comes is something that I feel is so important in both life and work. It grounds me just as taking a trip to my ancestral land does. It's so important to have wonderful people around you to be your anchor, to bounce off creatively, or to just share happy moments with you. Genuine human connection is something that is key to keeping going through it all.
My chosen family, my therapist, my crystals, Florida Water, Reiki, and managing who I give my time to offer me spiritual protection. I also love receiving little nick knacks from people I love, because by keeping them close I remember I am loved by some incredible people. I like to think of them as little talismans and that gives me strength.
