On place

Places are an amalgamation of sounds, scents, stories, bodies, flavors, feelings…Places aren’t static or constant, they’re in a constant process of metamorphosis, as are we. Our relationship with places changes. When coming to a place newly in love or coming to a place heartbroken it looks and feels different. When we first came to Los Angeles, we hated it, a year later we returned and loved it, and now we’ve lived here for almost 10 years!

On spiritual protection

Our family’s summer house in the Swedish countryside is a place that almost stands still in time and it doesn’t matter what state we’re in when we arrive, a sense of calm and solace always finds us there. It’s on a big lake that is so still it looks like a mirror, reflecting the clouds in the sky. There is no electricity or phone reception, no running water. It acts as a spiritual protection against the pressures and qualms of the outside world, you don’t need anything from anyone when you’re there. Our mother has kept our old books and clothes throughout the years, untouched, as if time hasn’t gone by at all. We opened a box there recently and found our once most coveted pieces of clothing, diaries, stuffed animals, books. Although we forgot about them for 20 years, it’s funny how much an old Avril Lavigne t-shirt can trigger such emotion!
