On daily rituals
Spraying perfume in my hair and wrists every morning always feels like stepping into myself, I wear rose scents — it reminds me of my mother, who lives a little bit far away and who I miss so much. She spent decades growing this marvellous little rose garden, and while it reminds me of my childhood and home, it also makes me feel very feminine and beautiful.
On where rituals matter most
My daughter Rosetta, 2 years old, always sits by my side in the bathroom while I put myself together in the morning. I let her spray a tiny bit of perfume on her wrists sometimes and it always makes her smile in the sweetest way. Sharing this little moment with her feels like an honour. To be the one to introduce her to what makes me feel whole and at home, and to hopefully incite the same feelings in her.
On place
New York City is my teacher. The people, the cinemas, the cherry blossoms and the martinis shared with longtime friends in dark downstairs bars, the ballets, the rats, the projects friends manage to bring to fruition after years of blood, sweat and tears, the cherished little restaurants, the shoe soles coming off from walking everywhere, the ‘God Bless You’s,’ the sound of the screeching train tracks and the $1 cup of coffee. I’m only a student of all of this beauty.
